Ishki
Birdfolk Cartographer
“I think just about anything can be a map, really, as long as it points you in the right direction and gets you where you want to go.”
Appearance: Hunched over her slanted drawing table a thin birdfolk talks quietly to herself, one clawed hand holding an ink-laden quill. The thick tapered feathers on her head shine an iridescent green and sharply turn white below her long black beak. A plume of rich orange feathers highlights the top of her embroidered blouse. She scratches a line, then stops to shoo one of the cats away from the inkwell.
Personality: Ishki is a dreamer, with her head always in the clouds and the abounding ambition to see how far her artistry can take her. She enjoys the help her service provides but believes that one day her work will make her famous. She can get over-excited and lose track of what she was saying or doing.
Motivation: I know I can do it. I just need to meet the right people and secure some more commissions. One, maybe two, noble estates, and I’m sure I’ll be offered a position as a Magisterial Cartographer.
Roleplaying Tips: Ishki is a hopeless romantic whose heart melts for the stray cats she adopts. She wants to start a family soon, and will likely flirt outrageously with the most eligible member of your party.
Background: Birdfolk who don’t have responsibilities in the colony may choose to leave in order to find their life’s purpose. Ishki is one of these, having flown far to the northeast to settle in human lands. She adapted quickly, learning the common tongue and became fascinated with the creation of maps. Putting her talent to good use, Ishki flies over the countryside memorizing the terrain to put down on paper.
Traits: Attractive, Craftsman, Foolish, Intelligent, Merchant, and Neutral
Dark Secret: Ishki is becoming more desperate for attention and her ambition is growing out of bounds. She’s decided to pressure her way among the Magisterial Cartographers through unethical means.

Ishki sells the maps she creates, as well as the many other maps in her impressive collection, at The Compass Rose. She also takes commissions for custom work, should you require it. If you yourself are in possession of a particularly rare or interesting map, Ishki may be willing to buy it or include it in a trade.

If you have connections with the nobility of the city, Ishki would be grateful for any introductions you are able to make. Even a good word to the right person will earn her admiration. If you are able to secure her an invitation to Thacklen Felcross III’s upcoming exhibition and gala she would be overjoyed.

The most coveted position for a mapmaker is to be counted among the Magisterial Cartographers, who are awarded lucrative official contracts to create official maps of the city and governing buildings. Not content to wait for her chance, Ishki is willing to pay to dig up information to blackmail a current member into early retirement and force them to suggest that she be appointed as their replacement.
