Ulika

Half-Orc Cleric

“One doesn’t heal a nation. That is too large. Just heal one person, the next person, and the next ...”

Appearance: Hunched and old, this half-orc’s wrinkled face would look gruesome if it weren’t for her broad smile. One of her eyes is milky white, the other a sharp blue and she moves to the next leper and begins her prayer. Something she says makes the other laugh and she starts to laugh herself. Her white mantle is edged in a blue stripe and it bobs and shakes on her shoulders as she chuckles.

Personality: Despite the reputation of her kind, Ulika is peaceful, maintaining her attitude through disciplined prayer and rarely losing her temper. This is not a weakness, as the cleric remains tough-as-nails even in her old age. She is willing to go where others will not to help the poor and ailing.

Motivation: There’s no sense trying to change what’s beyond my control, but I’ll continue to try and bring comfort to the outcast and hurting. I trust The Mirandae to do together what I cannot do alone.

Roleplaying Tips: Ulika has a wry and witty sense of humor, often cracking unexpected jokes. She has taken a personal vow of poverty and harbors a prejudice against the wasteful rich who ignore the needy.

Background: As soon as she was of age, Ulika joined the faith of Iandune, the deity of life. It wasn’t until her later years that she heard Iandune’s second call to venture into the dangerous places of the world and help the helpless. As tales of her courage and mercy grew, she was recruited by The Mirandae to act as their forward edge in hostile lands, listening to the people and reporting back through magical means.

Traits: Cunning, Divine, Good, Old, Persuasive, Religious, Resilient, Ugly, and Wise

Dark Secret: Ever since Ulika accepted Iandune’s special call she has not felt the presence of her deity, but only silent emptiness. This has not affected the divine magic she wields, but it has shaken her faith.

Plot Hooks
  • Ulika spends whatever time is needed in a single location before moving on but it would not be unusual to find her traveling in some of the most dangerous and uncivilized parts of the world. If your party finds itself adventuring in the far reaches of the wilds, perhaps you will find her there healing the sick.

  • The Temple of Iandune has only sporadic communication with Ulika but supports her efforts as much as it can. Recent information claims that she is ministering to the great barbarian tribes in the north and the faith needs to commission hardy adventurers to deliver supplies and bring back news of her work.

  • A message has reached the Temple of Iandune that Ulika is being held captive by a barbarian warlord. He claims she is a spy for the southern kingdoms and is threatening to execute her if southern interests are not removed from his land. The Temple fears negotiation will not be enough and several nations are sending specially tasked forces to intervene. The Mirandae have already dispatched their own agents.
