Josiath Isengrae

Appearance: In the Sanctuary of Vior’s bright hall stands a tall human, dressed in the ornate robes of the high cleric of the deity of light. His dark skin and kind black eyes look warm in the illumination of the many lamps overhead. Older, but still handsome, he speaks patiently to each of the petitioners lined up before him one by one, leaning forward to listen and then bless them with water carried at his belt.

Personality: High Cleric Isengrae is a true believer, one dedicated to helping the needy of the city. Charismatic and courageous, he uses his considerable reputation and connections with the nobility to promote the teachings of the faith and raise funds to continue the charitable works of the sanctuary.
​
Motivation: The needy will always be with us, but that is no excuse to stop working toward the good. A single light may be small on its own, but joined with others, we can shine as bright as the life-giving sun.

Roleplaying Tips: Josiath always listens fully before deciding what to say, making sure he understands. He sometimes has difficulty hearing and may lean forward or ask others, politely, to speak a little louder.
​
Background: Josiath Isengrae was born a younger son in a noble house. With little hope of inheriting influence in House Isengrae, he squandered his youth in riotous living and gained a reputation for his carousing ways. That changed after his twenty-second birthday, when, for reasons unknown, he dedicated himself to the faith of Vior. Years later, he serves the deity of light as the city’s High Cleric.

Dark Secret: One of Josiath’s older brothers was executed for heresy. House Isengrae paid a great deal of money to cover up the scandal and Josiath was sent to the sanctuary to bolster the family’s honor.
Plot Hooks

Though not as wealthy as others of his noble house, High Cleric Isengrae is not without means. He also commands a great deal of respect and influence in the city. If the need is great and the cause is just, High Cleric Isengrae is able to arrange healing, restoration, and resurrection spells for a true hero.

Sometimes taking years, the scribes of the Sanctuary of Vior work tirelessly to produce illuminated copies of the faith’s holy texts. One has just been completed and High Cleric Isengrae needs it carefully escorted through dangerous territory and delivered to a remote southeastern monastery.

Many faithful of the sanctuary have been reporting to High Cleric Isengrae that they have been victims of a number of mysterious and spiteful acts of torment in the past year and it seems that the Sanctuary of Vior is being targeted specifically. Despite a recent increase in the number and the severity of these crimes, the High Cleric’s appeals to Commander Pratch at the City Guard have fallen on deaf ears.
