Fantasy NPC

Krick

Goblin Scout

“Sometimes there is too much talking. Silence is much better.”

Appearance: A smaller goblin squats on a fallen tree and you’re not sure whether it’s male or female. Its thatch of matted black hair is worn in two short braids and the tip of its right ear looks like it’s been cut off. It holds up a clawed hand and tries to smile but sharp red-stained teeth make the gesture more of a grimace. It points to the strewn branches and leaves at your feet then springs away into the darkness.

Personality: Krick is overly curious by nature, a trait that sometimes gets the better of her. Hating every moment spent in the lair, she looks for any excuse to be away, thankful that Yarsh made her a new scout. She loves the solitude of the forest and would run away to survive alone if she thought she could.

Motivation: I’m fast and smart. I should make my own rules, live my own way. No more clan, no more boss, no more dragon. I can live alone. Maybe. Maybe Yarsh will come too. Yarsh and the druid-thing.

Roleplaying Tips: Krick is torn between her selfish desires and the needs of the clan. She carries a small stone forest totem that the captured druid made for her and has taken to chewing watchroot like Yarsh.

Background: As a young female, Krick was often bullied by other goblins, and it was a particularly cruel fighter that cut off the tip of her ear. Krick might never have had an opportunity to leave the Daggertooth Clan’s lair had it not been for Gwyraendring’s attack that killed most of the hunters and scouts. Now that the hunter Yarsh has taken her under his wing, she’s been given a taste of freedom.

Traits: Agile, Chaotic, Child, Cunning, Monstrous, Ugly, and Unimpressive

Dark Secret: Krick has been having secret conversations with Gwyraendring’s imprisoned druid and agreed to smuggle a message out of the lair for her. She is considering becoming the druid’s apprentice.

Plot Hooks
  • The strange druid that Gwyraendring holds prisoner fascinates Krick, though she isn’t sure why, and she’s slowly been teaching the druid her language. Krick has agreed to bring her some mistletoe sprigs from the forest and that’s where you find her, reaching to pick some stems, unaware of your approach.

  • You hear a high-pitched voice yelling from somewhere deeper in the great forest. If you investigate you’ll find a young goblin trapped by a giant poisonous snake. She’s climbed the branches of a high oak and is shooting at it with her shortbow as it climbs after her. She fires the last of her arrows and misses.

  • Krick and the goblin hunter Yarsh are conspiring to kill the wyrmling Gwyraendring and free the Daggertooth Clan from his rule. Though it’s risky, Krick is willing to try and gain your party’s trust by pointing out Yarsh’s forest traps as you come upon them. She will try to keep herself from being caught, but if you seem trustworthy, she and Yarsh may bring you the druid’s letter as you camp for the night.
